The Outlander season 5 trailer reveals the Frasers are once again in danger. After being separated for decades, Jamie (Sam Heughan) and Claire (Catriona Balfe) are finally reunited, and now, they even have Brianna (Sophie Skelton) with them in the late 1700s after she followed her mother through the stones. Now, they’re settling into a new life in the Americas on a small portion of land they claimed and called Fraser Ridge. But as with everything in the show, all good things must come to an end, as the family is faced with another brewing war.
At the end of season 4, the Fraser clan expanded with the arrival of Brianna’s daughter. It was a happy event for the family, made much better with the return of Roger (Richard Rankin) after a season of misfortune. With an expanded family now with them, Jamie and Claire are motivated more than ever to make sure that their future as a clan is ensured, despite the political turmoil surrounding them. Sadly, the path ahead is a rocky one, and they’re once again faced with difficult choices as a new season of Outlander kicks off.
On top of hosting a panel at this year’s New York Comic Con attended by the cast, Starz also rolled out the first trailer for Outlander season 5. Running for a just a little bit longer than a minute, the promotional clip reunites fans with the Frasers as they try t0 cleverly navigate the tricky situation they find themselves in while building their lives in North Carolina. Watch the emotional trailer below.
Outlander season 5 is based on Diana Gabaldon’s book The Fiery Cross - the fifth installment from the novel series the show is based on. In print, the narrative picks up with the marriage of Roger and Brianna, alongside the baptism of their child. Whether or not this will be the case onscreen remains to be seen, but based on the trailer, it seems like conflict between the couple also brews. Brianna accuses Roger of already wanting to go back to their original timeline due to how dangerous it is in the past for his family, especially since there’s still the possibility that they’ll die in a fire at one point in the coming years.
For years, Outlander has primarily remained faithful to its source material. It’s one of the reasons why readers of the books are generally behind the small screen adaptation. However, it wouldn’t be out of the realm of possibility for season 5 to see a significant deviation from what happened in print. That way, the series could switch things up and keep things interesting for everyone.
