Blizzard released Diablo 3: Eternal Collection for the Nintendo Switch in 2018, but that has been the extent of Blizzard’s support for Nintendo’s latest system. The Nintendo Switch has had strong sales throughout 2019, so it’s possible that Blizzard has been considering more ports for the system for a while now.
There has been speculation about whether the Nintendo Switch could even run Overwatch in the first place, but developers have proven that Doom can run faithfully on the Nintendo Switch, so there is still hope that an Overwatch port is feasible. The fact that games like Paladins and Warframe can run on the Nintendo Switch proves that modern multiplayer titles can run fine on the comparatively weaker hardware of the system.
It’s possible that an Overwatch announcement for the Nintendo Switch was due soon, as there are rumors of a new Nintendo Direct happening in September, as Nintendo has been dropping hints that a new Super Mario Sunshine game might be in development while there are patent documents suggesting Super Nintendo games are coming to Nintendo Switch in the future. An Overwatch port for the Nintendo Switch would have been a major part of any Nintendo Direct and is big enough news to have been the closing announcement. The hype for an Overwatch port on Nintendo Switch might be slightly deflated after this leak, but the fans can keep themselves excited by wondering which character is likely to be chosen as a representative in Super Smash Bros. Ultimate.
