Star Wars: The Rise of Skywalker marked the controversial return of Emperor Palpatine, and apparently, there was never any alternate story to his re-emergence. Directed and co-written (with Chris Terrio) by J.J. Abrams, the film is the final installment of the three-trilogy Skywalker saga. And to hammer that point down, the filmmakers decided to bring the iconic villain from the first two threequels. It was during this year’s Star Wars Celebration in Chicago where it was revealed that Ian McDiarmid would reprise his role as the Emperor in The Rise of Skywalker....

Apple is continuing to develop the upcoming OS X El Capitan 10.11.2 update, and today released the latest test version. OS X El Capitan Update Developer Beta 4 is now available in the Mac App Store. Pebble has launched version 2.5 of its smartwatch firmware, packing a bunch of great new features—including some interesting new abilities for users who have recently upgraded to iOS 8. Notably, the update now allows iOS users to dismiss notifications by clicking the X button to dismiss one, and holding it down to dismiss all. The G d 7.0, 8.0, 10.1 will debut at the Med tradeshow in Monaco beginning Tuesday. Specifications weren’t announced, but we should get all the details later this week. Those new MacBook Pros – the ones released last month – are not only as fast as last year’s Mac Pros, they can also take 16GB of RAM. That puts them a pretty rarified world of computing, at least as far as laptops are concerned. OWC has the brand new OWC133DDR3S8GB 8GB modules currently at $100 per GB price of $800/each. While some may be able to justify the price now, it will come down dramatically as production ramps up....

Apple’s iWork suite for iOS and iPadOS has been updated today with “stability and performance improvements.” Version 5.2.1 for Pages, Numbers, and Keynote is now available for iPhone and iPad. It comes after a major update back in September that brought support for iOS 13 and iPadOS 13. Parallels has released a Technical Preview Program for running Parallels Desktop 16 on M1-powered Macs. The company says that it created a “new virtualization engine that uses the Apple M1 Mac chip hardware-assisted virtualization” to allow users to run ARM-based operating systems, including Windows, in a virtual machine. Parallels points out some limitations with the first version of the Parallels 16 Technical Preview for Apple Silicon Macs: It is not possible to install or start an Intel x86 based operating system in a virtual machine....

In the third quarter (Q3) of 2021, PC monitor shipments declined for the first time after five consecutive quarters of growth, according to tech analyst IDC. PC monitor shipments overall were down 7.2% to 34.8 million units compared to Q3 2020 when remote workers snapped up 37.5 million monitors, many of them as second monitors. IDC estimates 86.7 million desktops and notebooks were sold in Q3 2021, up 5% from the same period a year ago....
