Parallels Access today received a significant version 2.5 update with support for the iPhone 6 & iPhone 6 Plus, a new file managing system, improved audio controls, and a new web browser-based version. Parallels Access, as we covered upon its launch for the iPhone last year, is a robust remote computing application that allows you to view and control multiple Macs or Windows PCs via an iPhone, iPad, iPod touch, or Android device.
Besides support for the larger, higher-resolution iPhone 6 and iPhone 6 Plus displays, this new version introduces an improved file management system. The new file picker leverages the new tools in iOS 8 to better work with other applications like Dropbox and Google Drive. Parallels shares the list of enhancements to the feature:
- Store files locally with Parallels Access and preview them
- View and copy files from Dropbox and Google DriveTM cloud storage accounts
- Search for files on remote computers
- Open files stored locally in Parallels Access with other apps
- Transfer locally stored files to remote computers and open them with desktop applications
- Share files using the iOS sharing tools
This means that users can now more quickly access files stored on their remote computers via their iOS devices. This also means that users can now locally store files, which makes accessing them more intuitive and faster. Another helpful new feature in this update is improved audio control settings which allow the user to choose whether sound outputs from the iOS device or the remote computer.
Not exclusive to iOS, but still notable, is a new web browser feature for Parallels Access. Using the Parallels Access website, you can now access and control your computers via the web browser on another computer. Current Parallels Access users get the new features for free, while subscriptions cost $19.99 for a year or $34.99 for two years.
