Aziz Ansari’s Parks and Recreation character Tom Haverford was known for his love of fashion and lifestyle trends, and his (often misguided) entrepreneurial spirit - so what happened to him after the series ended? Ansari played Tom Haverford for the NBC sitcom’s seven-year run before it came to an end in 2015, and the flash-forward montage featured in the series finale provided a glimpse into Tom’s future.
Tom was known as the underachiever within the Pawnee Parks Department, as he was often too busy exploring his own business endeavors to focus on his government position. During his time on Parks and Rec, Tom started multiple doomed companies including Entertainment 720 and Rent-A-Swag. Tom also deeply cared about his appearance, especially when it came to attracting women. He notably dated Ann, Mona-Lisa, and Nadia. The sarcastic Parks employee finally decided to settle down after he got another chance with Lucy, a woman he previously dated.
Despite his previous business failures, Tom took another risk in Parks and Rec season 6 when he established the restaurant Tom’s Bistro. When the series time-jumped the following season, it was revealed that Tom’s Bistro was a hit in town. On a trip to Chicago, Tom reunited with Lucy (Natalie Morales) and convinced her to move back to Pawnee to work at his restaurant. They later rekindled their romance and Tom ended up proposing to Lucy, which she accepted. The Parks and Rec series finale featured a number of flash-forward scenes that revealed that the couple stayed together, but they hit a few bumps in the road due to Tom’s business decisions.
In the future, Tom decided to franchise and expand Tom’s Bistro but the attempt was unsuccessful, causing him to lose a great deal of money. The expansion failures put a little bit of strain on Tom and Lucy’s marriage, but they overcame the struggles. Tom used those failures in his past to write multiple self-help books that went on to become major hits. He also reacquired the rights to Tom’s Bistro after finding success as an author.
It was never revealed if Tom and Lucy had any children, but it wouldn’t have been a surprise to see that the couple intended to start a family. Tom finally found a place in his life where he was happy in his personal and professional life, and that stability likely would have made him feel stable enough to raise a child. But even if the pair decided against having children, Tom would have had enough going on in his life to occupy his time.
Tom would have definitely kept up his relationships with his fellow Parks Department employees. Leslie, Ron, Andy, April, Donna, and even Jerry were important to Tom throughout his time on Parks and Recreation. Even if they didn’t all live in Pawnee, Tom and the others would have made it a point to keep in touch - especially Donna, so they could celebrate their annual “Treat Yo Self” day.
