Paul McCartney said rapper and Keeping Up With the Kardashians star Kanye West scrolled through pictures of his wife, Kim Kardashian during their collaboration in 2014. McCartney made the disclosure in an interview with Billboard that was published on November 14th.

West is now connected to the Kardashian family after the rapper married Kim in 2014, which was featured on season 9 of Keeping Up with the Kardashians. Currently, the couple has four children -  North, 6, Saint, 3, followed by daughter Chicago, 20-months, and four-month-old Psalm. West has been getting a lot of press since his latest release Jesus Is King dropped in October 2019 and has gone through huge changes in his lifestyle and in his music.

McCartney detailed his time with the controversial musician during his interview with Billboard (via Us Weekly). McCartney recounted his first few moments with West. Their collaboration took place in a cottage at the Beverly Hills hotel. The veteran rocker said that he was doing a lot of the prep work on the songs by strumming his guitar. Although West showed up to the session with a keyboard and a bass, music was the furthest thing from his mind in the beginning. McCartney recalled, “I was sitting around, strumming the guitar - that’s normally how I start a song - and Kanye was looking at his iPad, basically scrolling through images of Kim [Kardashian].” During the session in Beverly Hills, the two powerhouses created the song “Only One” which was inspired by West’s mother and “FourFiveSeconds” which was a collaboration with Rihanna.

Surprisingly, West and McCartney have a lot more in common than expected. McCartney’s mother died when he was just 14-years-old. West lost his mother to a plastic surgery mishap in 2007. Later, during his success with the Beatles, McCartney met and fell in love with American heiress Linda Eastman (of Eastman Kodak fame). They started their family including daughter and fashion designer, Stella McCartney. Paul and Linda were frequent collaborators throughout their marriage. They even toured together as bandmates in the group Wings. West became acquainted with socialite Kardashian through their mutual friendship with singer Brandy. They forged a friendship over the years, which outlived his relationship with model Amber Rose, and her relationships with athletes Reggie Bush and Kris Humphries. They are now frequent collaborators on her family’s reality show, Keeping Up With the Kardashians, as well as his fashion line.

It’s funny to think that with an accomplished legend like Paul McCartney in the room, Kanye West’s primary fixation was on his bride. However, West has made no secret about his love for his family - particularly his wife. Ever since the death of his mother, Donda, West has pulled closer to his faith and relatives. His music is reflective of his evolution. Despite the surprising lack of engagement, he showed when collaborating with McCartney, West can at least be commended for the consistency of his obsession.
