The U.S. trailer for Peaky Blinders season 5 puts the Shelby clan up against the wall as they deal with the stock market crash and the rise of fascism. One of the most stylish shows on television, the U.K. crime drama has become something of an international phenomenon, as the story of the Shelby family and their rise from violent street hoods to leaders of a massive crime syndicate and, eventually, politicians, is now one of the few shows it seems the world over is eager to watch at the same time.
While that’s not entirely possible, it’s closer than ever thanks to Netflix’s efforts to bring each new season to American audiences as soon as it finishes airing overseas. That means viewers will get their dose of Cillian Murphy’s increasingly weary Tommy Shelby imploring his family and their various associates to listen to him sooner rather than later, and with the added benefit of bingeing the latest episodes if they so wish. That seems to have worked out in Netflix’s favor as Peaky Blinders is one of those shows that actually benefits from the binge-watch.

Those eager to begin the binge can do so on Netflix in early October, and they’ll be treated to a season set in 1929, as the Shelby’s are left reeling from the effects of the stock market crash and its subsequent financial fallout, as well as the terrifying rise of fascism in Europe and beyond. Take a look at the U.S. trailer for Peaky Blinders season 5, as well as a brief synopsis of what lies ahead below:
Series creator Steven Knight is also one of the most prolific writers in film and television today, and though he sometimes has a misstep, like this year’s Matthew McConaughey and Anne Hathaway noir turkey, Serenity, he’s also capable of turning out six hours of highly entertaining TV in Blinders. Season 5 also welcomes some recognizable faces to the cast, as Sam Claflin (Adrift) and Anya Taylor-Joy (New Mutants) get mixed up in the Shelby’s various schemes and criminal pursuits.
“Season 5… finds the world thrown into turmoil by the financial crash of 1929. When Tommy Shelby MP is approached by a charismatic politician with a bold vision for Britain, he realizes that his response will impact not only the future of his family but that of the entire nation.”
